We knew we had an entertaining and engaging performance ready to rumble on March 5th. We had great rehearsals, some great media appearances, and fine-tuned the script until it was tight as a drum.
Fresco knew this... but would the general public? We were still an unknown entity. With a passion and a mission, we created a company, and started working immediately on our first production.
Fresco Opera Theatre, this new, young start-up decided to do things differently. We wanted to present operatic music in a way that people hadn’t seen before. We wanted to make it fun - not work - to sit through a classical music performance. We wanted to engage the audience, and make them feel that we are “all in this together.”
Based on all the feedback we received from the audience, during and after the show, we nailed it. We did something new, and the audience responded positively. They enjoyed a night of opera. Unconventional in presentation, yes, but traditional in performance.
Our audience was diverse. All ages. We had seasoned opera fans, as well as those who had never seen an operatic performance. It was exactly what we wanted, and they were all engaged during Dueling Divas.
We broke the wall that separates performer and patron. The audience knew that they were an important part of the production. The noise makers handed out before the show left no doubt this was not going to be a stuffy affair.
So Dueling Divas is under our belt - and you now know what we are about. This is just the beginning for us. We have plans for many appearances during the summer, focusing on educating people about Opera, in an entertaining way. Our next full production will be in the fall.
